Cancer was selected earlier this year as one of the five European missions in the Horizon Europe 2021-27 research and innovation program. The other four missions are climate change, healthy oceans, climate-neutral cities and healthy soil and food. The Mission Board for Cancer is chaired by Noble laureate Harald zur Hausen and consists of 15 top experts selected from over 350 applicants.
One of the first jobs of the Board is to narrow down the mission area. A first discussion with citizens, stakeholders and experts from Member States will take place at the European Research and Innovation Days in Brussels from 24 to 26 September.
